Director of Training

Brent Buss brings over three decades of real-world operational, instructional, and leadership experience to WOFT, shaping training programs that go far beyond the range and into real-life readiness.

Brent’s background spans Naval Special Warfare, U.S. intelligence operations, and high-threat protective services, where his work focused on planning, executing, and leading security operations in both domestic and international environments. His career includes service as a Special Operations Vessel Commander and Chief Engineer with Naval Special Warfare, deployments supporting Operation Enduring Freedom and Operation Iraqi Freedom, and years operating alongside U.S. and foreign partners in complex threat environments.

Following his military service, Brent continued his work in protection and instruction as a CIA Protective Operations Officer, Director of Training for overseas protective forces, and lead instructor for U.S. government and diplomatic protection programs. He has trained personnel responsible for safeguarding government officials, critical infrastructure, and civilian populations — often in high-risk, rapidly evolving situations.

Brent’s training philosophy is grounded in reality. He believes effective self-defense and firearms instruction must account for stress, decision-making, environmental awareness, and human behavior, not just technical skill. His certifications and continuing education reflect this mindset, spanning advanced firearms instruction, force protection, protective operations, mass-attack response, intelligence and threat analysis, and emergency medical response.

At WOFT, Brent oversees curriculum development, instructor standards, and scenario design to ensure every course reflects the same principles he relied on throughout his career: preparation, accountability, and adaptability.
